Easy Jersey Knit Headband

Ok, so I am sure you have seen these things allll over Pinterest. They are the new fad and I LOVE them. I wear them to the gym with my super messy bun, I wear them to church with my hair down. My daughters wear them. They are so fun and easy to make and you can dress them up or down.

What you need to get started:

1. Jersey knit fabric. It needs to be stretchy! I found Hobby Lobby has some cute prints and usually 30% off. And just a little FYI...You can totally google hobby lobby coupon and just show that sucker to the cashier for 40% off a regular priced item. Holla! You do not need a lot, but I always buy a yard of fabric because I love to have it in my stock pile.

2. Scissors. I tried using my daughter's little school scissors because I misplaced mine (were lost), it didn't work. You need sharp scissors.

3. Sewing machine or needle and thread. I personally like to use my machine on this because a.) it is faster and b.) the machine seems to be more durable for this stretchy type of material. If you do use a needle and thread be sure to get the stitching tight.

And that is it! Now you are ready to start!

Step one:

Cut your fabric. You can make this as wide as you want. I like mine wider but totally up to you. Make sure you cut the length a couple of inches shorter than what you actually need. The material stretches! I cut mine 18 inches (don't forget to allow for the seam). Don't stretch your material out when measuring!

Step two:

Fold your fabric in half. This type of material is a little tricky to line up perfectly but the great thing about this is that is doesn't have to be perfect! Just line it up as best as you can.

Step three:

Sew this bad boy together! Make sure you don't get too close to the edge. Allow enough room for a good stitch. Sew a straight line down and don't forget to back-stitch! You don't want it coming apart while you are looking super cute wearing it!

Step four:

Turn it to the right side in. And you are done! See how easy that was? You can add rosettes to it or bows or anything you desire. I like to wear mine plain but I did add a cute little rosette to my daughters.

Cute little baby excited about her new headband:

You can wear it wide with a super messy-mom bun:

You can wear it scrunched up with a super messy-mom bun:

You can wear it with your hair down and take self-portraits of yourself in the bathroom, too:

See, easy! And versatile! If you are like me, you have very little time to spend on your hair or makeup. Since I wear a messy bun 99% of the time, adding headbands make me feel a little better. You know the feeling!

Now hurry up and go make one now! You won't be sorry!
